what is chiropractic
Chiropractic is a natural form of health care that uses spinal adjustments to correct spinal misalignments and restore proper function to the nervous system, helping your body to heal naturally. Chiropractic doesn’t use drugs or surgery. Rather, a chiropractic spinal adjustment corrects the misalignment, permitting normal nerve transmission and assisting your body to recuperate on its own.
Many everyday activities can cause spinal bones to lose both proper position and motion leading to nervous system irritation. This is referred to by doctors of chiropractic as Subluxation. Your doctor of chiropractic will examine your spine for any existing potential subluxations, and assist you on a path toward better health.

what is
subluxation
A subluxation, or more precisely, the Vertebral Subluxation Complex, describes what happens when spinal bones lose their normal position and motion from stress, trauma, or chemical imbalances. The vertebral subluxation complex is the underlying cause of many healthcare problems.
A properly functioning nervous system allows the entire body to function at its optimum level. Interference to the nervous system interferes with the function of the body. For example, irritating the nerves going to the stomach or intestines will affect the transmission of nerve impulses from the brain to these organs. This situation may cause a person to suffer from ulcers, indigent, constipation, diarrhea, or other gastro-intestinal conditions. Many individuals do not realize that the underlying cause other disease condition and the widespread affects it has on the body are collectively called the Vertebral Subluxation Complex.
why gonstead
Chiropractic has come a long way since Daniel D. Palmer gave his first adjustment in September 1895 in Davenport, Iowa. Today, there are many methods used by chiropractors to correct subluxation complexes. Many techniques are identified by the name of the person who was most instrumental in their development. Interestingly enough, one of the most advanced and scientific methods is a technique called The Gonstead System. The Gonstead chiropractic doctor goes beyond what many chiropractors consider a spinal assessment by conducting a thorough analysis of spine using five criteria to detect the presence of the vertebral subluxation complex.
Five criteria:
Visualization - Looking for changes in your posture and movement which could indicate any problems
Instrumentation - Use an instrument called “Nervoscope” to detect any inflammation or nerve pressures along the spine.
Static Palpation - Check the presence of swelling, tenderness and abnormalities in the muscles.
Motion Palpation - Check the movement of each potential subluxated segments of the spine.
X-ray - To evaluate the posture, joint integrity, vertebral misalignments and ruling out any pathologies or fractures that may be present.
